Mary Theresa McCombe

Mary Theresa McCombe is a founding member of Hearts to Homes where she has served as Executive Director for ten years. The mother of three young adults, she and her husband, John, have supported a variety of charities, including those in the foster care field. Mary Theresa has served on the boards of Iona Prep (New Rochelle), Mercy Center (Bronx), and The AES Crestwood Foundation (Crestwood). A graduate of NYU, a retired CPA with KPMG, and a volunteer fundraiser, she loves to share the story of the wonderful work that Hearts to Homes does. She is now Executive Director Emeritus where she provides counsel to the board.

Marissa Mugno

Marissa Mugno

Marissa Mugno joined Hearts to Homes in 2022. She is delighted to work with the Hearts to Homes recipients daily and assist as their Hearts to Homes wish lists are fulfilled. Prior to Hearts to Homes, Marissa started her career in the college publishing division at John Wiley & Sons and also worked in educational marketing at Apple. She resides in Westchester County with her husband, their three children and dog. Marissa is an active volunteer with H.O.P.E Kitchen, and served on both the board of The Mothers’ Club of St. Joseph’s School (Bronxville) as well as The Mothers’ Auxiliary at The Ursuline School (New Rochelle).

Sonja Smash

Sonja Smash

Sonja Smash is a mission-driven nonprofit and public service professional with more than a decade of experience in community engagement, operations, and strategic outreach. As the inaugural Equity Officer for the City of Yonkers, she led inclusive engagement initiatives, strengthened community partnerships, and expanded access to resources through thoughtful collaboration and relationship-building.

For Sonja, the mission of Hearts To Homes is deeply personal. As a former foster child, she understands firsthand that a home represents more than a physical space—it represents dignity, stability, belonging, and the foundation for a hopeful future. A resident of Mount Vernon, New York, Sonja holds an M.S. in Communications & Marketing from The College of New Rochelle and is passionate about advancing equitable communities where individuals are supported, empowered, and positioned to thrive.
